LOGAN, Ohio (WCMH) — The missing Hocking County K9, Ilka, has been found and is doing okay. In fact, she’s already back at work.
“When she walked back in the back door it was like nothing happened and we’re right back in,” said Ilka’s handler Rick Torchick. “She’s wanting to get back in the cruiser and wanted to go right back to work.”
Torchick said it was sort of a five-day vacation for his K9 partner Ilka. They have been together every day for the last six years. He said when she went missing after chasing a deer, he couldn’t do anything but worry.
“Is she going to chase something and get hit by a car? Is she going to go through somebody’s hunting area and them get mad a shoot her?”
Thankfully Ilka came back home on her own but has a few battle wounds.
“She got in a rumble with something,” said Torchick
She had scratches on her nose and above one of her eyes. She also has wounds on her ears, but appears to be fine.
“Nothing major, she’s been to the vet and the vet is taking good care of her,” said Torchick She’s on antibiotics.”
No disciplinary action will be taken against Torchick because the Hocking County Sheriff said negligence is not believed to be an issue.
Torchick says now it’s back to work for the two of them just as nothing ever happened.
“Our training continues every day,” said Torchick Every day we’re together we train and we work together and nothing going to change out of the normal.”
