Highball Halloween festival underway in the Short North

Local News

The city’s most extravagant Halloween festival is now underway.

It’s not just your average costume party, but a celebration filled with the utmost fashions and entertainment.

“We take Halloween to the next level and we do it in a way that blends fashion and creativity,” said Betsy Pandora, executive director of the Short North Alliance.

Thousands of people are expected to pack the Short North for this event. This year’s theme is one that almost everyone can relate to: “What’s your favorite 90s fashion?”

The group “Wanna Be,” also dubbed the world’s leading Spice Girls tribute band, performed on Friday.

While it rained for the beginning of Highball, Pandora said the weather would not prompt organizers to cancel the event.

“The rain won’t stop Highball unless there’s a safety issue that we needed to take care of,” she said. “We’re a rain or shine event and we’ve had rain in the past and it hasn’t stopped folks before.”

A dozen area businesses will be participating in the Barkers and Beggars trick or treat with your dog, during Highball.

Short North Pieces of Cake has made little treats for dogs and their beggars to enjoy.

“We do cut out cookies. We have some Frankenstein, ghost, some pumpkin, those are fun things for the adults and people to enjoy and we made some Snickerpoodle Cookies, a cinnamon and cornmeal for the dogs,” said Laura Harter, owner of Short North Pieces of Cake.
