Grove City and Columbus PD investigating string of robberies

Local News

GROVE CITY, OH (WCMH) – Police said a string of three robberies in Grove City and Columbus seem to be connected.

Two happened on Friday within about 15 minutes of each other in Grove City.

Another robbery happened in German Village on Saturday.

One of the victims, Avis Bradley Van Sickle, was not seriously hurt, but is still sore and recovering. She said one of the thieves pulled her out of her vehicle and got away with her rental car, purse and phone.

“The thief told me at one point he said, ‘Just let it go,’” she said.

Avis said she fought back, not wanting to let go of her purse after four young men robbed her on Crestwick Court in Grove City.

“I swung around to get out of the car and all of a sudden there’s a gun in my face,” she said.

She had just come home from work and parked around 9:10pm on Friday night.

“He drug me out of the car onto the street and I let go of the purse,” said Avis.

The keys to her rental car were on the ground when she said another thief grabbed them and got away.

“He just took off to the right of me and hit my right knee and I fell to the ground,” she said.

According to police, about 15 minutes earlier two people on English Turn Drive had just pulled into their garage and parked when three males with two guns came in as they were getting out of the car. They got away with a laptop and a cell phone. Patty Wells lives in the area.

“I don’t know what happened, who it happened to, but am I looking around for three males in a car? I am. I’m just trying to be observant,” she said. “It can happen anywhere.”

Then on Saturday, a similar robbery happened in German Village near Blackberry Alley and Stewart Avenue at 9:20am. Columbus Police said it’s tied to the Grove City robberies. Investigators found an item in a car that belongs to one of the other victims.

Avis remind others to be aware of their surroundings.

“One of the biggest lessons I got was just if something like that happened again, just let it go,” she said. “It’s not worth it.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
