Grenade detonated in Pickerington after man arrested

A call about a domestic dispute ended in the bomb squad detonating a grenade in Pickerington today.

At noon, a person called police about a man, 67, who fled in a vehicle from a house at Sycamore Creek Street, Pickerington Police Department said on social media.

Pickerington police soon discovered the man was a felon who had several guns, and allegedly had said he’d assault officers if they stopped him.

Officers found the vehicle on Hill Road North, stopped it, and took the man into custody the post said.

The man had been driving with several guns. When officers searched the house, they found 30 guns, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and explosives.

When Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad got there, they found a live grenade and safely detonated it.

Numerous charges are expected to be filed, the post concluded.
