A girl missing from Reynoldsburg has been recovered in Texas, and the man accused of taking her has been arrested on kidnapping charges.

Darrell Pridemore allegedly texted the victim’s mother through a third party app. The message stated the 16-year-old was safe but did not give her location.

He then asked the mother if he could marry the teen.

The girl was reported missing on May 11.

On May 14, authorities were able to confirm that Pridemore made his way back to his residence in Barstow, Texas. They suspected he had the young girl with him based on purchases he made at Victoria Secret and American Eagle after the child went missing.

The Reynoldsburg Ohio Police Department contacted the Texas Department of Public Safety for help in arresting Pridemore at his Barstow property.

“We contacted some local agencies.” said Sgt. Oscar Villarreal with DPS, “The Ward County Sheriff’s Office and the Odessa Swat Team, who combined their efforts with us and helped us locate Darrell Pridemore.”

Villarreal says the Reynoldsburg Police Department was fully in charge of the kidnapping investigation, and that West Texas agencies only helped with the arrest of the suspect.

“He was arrested, and the child was located and is safe at this time.” Villarreal said.

According to an affidavit out of Ward County, Pridemore had an online relationship with the 16-year-old girl. Her parents did not give him permission to take the child.

Pridemore is booked at the Ward County Jail.
