GERMAN VILLAGE, OH (WCMH) — A Columbus grocery store was forced to temporarily close this week after shoppers made a surprising discovery.

The Giant Eagle store in German Village had to shut down for several hours after the health department found evidence of pests inside.

The grocery store chain issued a statement to our newsroom tonight, saying in part: “We immediately took the requisite steps to meet not only the high standards we set for ourselves, but those of the city of Columbus and most importantly those of our customers.”

Tonight, the store on East Whittier Street is back open.
