HILLIARD, OH (WCMH) — On Saturday, the Franklin County Fair kicked off in Hilliard, Ohio.
The Fair has been going on for 101 years. With games, food, rides, daily entertainment and a petting zoo, what more could you want for a perfect summer day? Tickets are $7 for a tradition that has brought families together for decades. Children 2 and under are free.
“I love to come to the fair because there’s a lot of games,” says Silas Wayner, who was at the fair with his family.
David Fleshman is the president of Franklin County Agriculture Society. He says a big part of this fair is showcasing the 4H members.
“Agriculture in the state of Ohio and across the country is huge,” he says. “You need farmers to eat. It’s positive youth development, the 4H camp . . . that’s what 4H is doing growing this kids into leaders.”
Brothers Jute and Hawkins Marihugh
For these 10 and 12 year old brother in 4H it’s one exciting week!
“We’re showing our rabbits and then selling them at the auction on Sunday,” says Jute.
“Last year I didn’t get to show it with him because my rabbits got disqualified but hopefully this year I’ll show against him . . . it’s fun because it’s a little family competition. I’ve learned leadership and I have also learned to give back to the community and a lot about rabbits.”
“I’ve learned about friendship,” says Jute.
Whether you’re inside a tented area with the animals or outside enjoying the sunshine. it’s a family friendly time!
“They get to play games, they get food, they get to see all the cows and stuff so they were just over there making all the animal sounds they could,” says Patrick Wayner, who brought his children.
“Moooooooo,” said his son Elliott.
The fair is happening from July 14 all the way through July 21. For a list of activities and shows visit – http://www.fcfair.org/
