Franklin County Deputy injured on Camp Chase Trail

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A deputy found injured on the Camp Chase Trail believes he was assaulted.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy was patrolling on Camp Chase Trail around noon when he radioed in he was in a foot pursuit, and when they tried to get him back on the radio he did not respond. When they were finally able to get ahold of him he was disoriented and claims he may have been assaulted. 

Officers from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin Township and Columbus Police searched the area for hours. 

The injured deputy was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. 

According to the sheriff’s office, this is an isolated incident and the trail is safe to use. 

Authorities are still investigating.
