Former Newark St. Francis de Sales accountant accused of stealing $150,000 from parish

A 39-year-old former Newark St. Francis de Sales Parish accountant is accused of stealing more than $150,000 in parish funds.

Newark Division of Police arrested Amber McCracken, of Newark, on March 14 after she acknowledged stealing more than $100,000 in parish funds and further investigation found that additional money was stolen from the parish, officials said.

The grand theft was discovered in August 2016, officials said.

Newark police continued investigating the theft with the assistance from the Special Investigations Unit of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Office of the Attorney General, officials said.

McCracken was arrested and transported to the Licking County Justice Center.

The case will be forwarded to the Licking County Prosecutor’s OFfice for review of formal charges, officials said.
