Firefighters investigating suspicious fire in Hilltop area

Local News

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Firefighters are treating an early-morning fire in west Columbus as suspicious.

Jack Reall, a deputy fire chief with the Columbus Division of Fire, said the house on the corner of N. Ogden Avenue in the Hilltop appeared to be vacant with no utilities, and therefore the fire is considered suspicious.

Reall said as far as firefighters were aware, no one was inside and that a neighbor called the fire in about 2:50am Thursday.

When firefighters got there, flames were coming through the roof and the second floor of the house collapsed onto the first floor, so Reall said firefighters fought it defensively from the outside, containing it in about 30 minutes.

No firefighters were injured while fighting the fire, Reall said, but a ladder truck did catch on fire.

Firefighters did not release a point of origin for the fire.
