We are 10 days away from our Firefighters for Kids event! NBC4 teamed up with Columbus Division of Fire, CME Federal Credit Union, 97.9 WNCI and 93.3 The Bus. This is our 41st year holding this event to help kids in need right here in central Ohio.

Firefighters for Kids is expecting to help more than 15,000 kids this year but can’t do it without your help.

Toys, toys and more toys. The program goes from ages zero to twelve. Each child ends up going away with a bag of toys or a bike.

“Knowing the kids are going to be smiling on Christmas morning. I think that’s going to be the biggest thing that we know is going to happen,” said volunteer Dale Miller. The retired Upper Arlington firefighter has been volunteering with the program for years.

“You get a lot of smiles from the kids and a lot of tears from the parents. And I think that’s probably the most rewarding is when you see the parents crying, you know they’re really appreciative and it actually gets to us too,” said Miller.

We’re collecting new unwrapped toys, gift cards and monetary donations.

Some items include baby blankets, pacifiers, sippy cups, toy trucks, coloring books, games, sporting goods and bikes.

Miller, along with many volunteers, thank everyone who’s made this possible with their donations.

“I say thank you, but that’s not even enough. I don’t even know what else to say. We thank them from the bottom of our heart,” said Miller. “We wouldn’t be able to do this if it wasn’t for the people that make the donations and the sponsors.”
