BLENDON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WCMH) — A firefighter was hospitalized after falling through a floor overnight.
The fire was reported at a home along Chickadee Place, when the firefighter with Plain Township fell.
According to Plain Township Fire Chief Jack Rupp, the firefighter that was injured fell nine and a half feet as the floor collapsed under him when searching the upper floor. The fire was not active under where he was searching.
Rupp said the injured firefighter was a newly promoted lieutenant who was using a sounding tool to test the floor that created the hole he fell through.
The firefighter had minor injuries and was released from the hospital at 11 a.m. Monday. Rupp said it was “very fortunate” the injuries weren’t more severe.
The family in the home was able to make it out safely.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
