Family relieved to learn Upper Arlington homicide suspect is behind bars

UPPER ARLINGTON, OH (WCMH) — The family of Charles McCoy says they are relieved to find out that the suspect in his death is behind bars.

More than a week ago, Charles McCoy was stabbed to death outside of China Dynasty on Lane Avenue in Upper Arlington.

Authorities say the suspect is Jeffrey Harrison, even though they initially charged someone else. Court documents say that on June 11, McCoy had words with the suspect and his girlfriend. Records say the two fell to the ground, where Charles was stabbed to death.

“He has nieces and nephews and little cousins who loved him. You just don’t understand when you have to tell kids that their uncle or favorite person is gone. You took a big part of our family,” said Taneishia McCoy, Charles’ sister.

Wednesday, the Upper Arlington Police Department apologized to the man who was wrongly accused of the crime.

As previously reported, all charges against JefferyLarmar Smith have been dismissed. The Upper Arlington Police Division would like to thank Mr. Smith for his cooperation and understanding inthis matter. The Upper Arlington Police Division w​​​​​​​ould also like to apologize to Mr. Smith and hisfamily.
