Fairfield County deputies identify man found dead in burning vehicle

LANCASTER, OH (WCMH) — Deputies have identified the man found dead in a burning vehicle in a Canal Winchester field.

According to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, at about 11:18pm, Wednesday, deputies were called to a field behind the Home Depot on Gender Road in Canal Winchester on the report of a vehicle fire. 

When emergency crews arrived on scene they found a 1996 Chevrolet truck, that appeared to be stuck in the water and mud, engulfed in flames. 

After extinguishing the fire, the body of 76-year-old Thomas W. Kelley, of Canal Winchester, was found in the driver seat of the truck. 

According to Fairfield County Sheriff Dave Phalen the case remains under investigation, but it is not believed foul play is involved.
