The Fairfield County Family, Adult and Children First Council and the Fairfield County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health(ADAMH) have teamed up to provide local parenting classes.
There are several different workshops geared to different ages and stages of childhood development.
The Active Parenting: First Five Years workshop is a free, informative class offered specifically to parents of children ages of birth to 5 years old.
This is a three session series that will next be held on upcoming Tuesdays in September beginning September 11. Ages and stages of development, parenting styles, non-violent discipline skills, building a bond through play, routine and discipline are covered in this class. Parents receive a free parent workbook and certificate of completion at the end of the series. Registration is provided and childcare is not provided.
The Active Parenting class is a nationally acclaimed, evidence based program focusing on parenting children ages 5-12 years of age.
This class focuses on raising responsible and cooperative children through positively developing courage, responsibility and self-esteem. This is a four session series with sessions coming up next in October.
The Parent Project is a 10 week series of weekly three hour sessions, designed for parents of strong-willed or out of control teens. There is a focus on improving both school attendance and performance. Light dinner is provided at the beginning of class. It is offered at no cost, however there is a $10 materials fee due at the first session. The next series begins in September.
All classes require pre registration.
