An exploding bottle of soda pop had people at Polaris Fashion Place panicked as they shopped on Mother’s Day.

According to Columbus Division of Police, calls began coming in about an active shooter situation at Polaris mall at 3:30 this afternoon.

However, officers at the mall quickly assessed there was no active shooter. Instead, a soda pop bottle had exploded, police said.

“Kiosk at Polaris Fashion Place had a nitrogen mishap. That’s it,” CPD said on social media.

“Sgt. Dana Hess was off duty shopping at the mall when the explosion happened, right next to it. She says a teenager put nitrogen in his soda pop and it exploded. He was the only one injured. Minor injuries.”

In addition, a spokesman for Columbus Division of Fire said, “Two people claimed to be injured at the scene. One person was transported and another was treated at the scene.

“Both were minor injuries.”

More on the situation as it develops.
