NEWARK, OH (WCMH) — The City of Newark will be getting a visit from Vice President Mike Pence on Monday.
Pence will be in town to campaign for Troy Balderson, who is running for Congress.
South 1st Street from Main St. to Market St. will be closed. Other temporary road closures, which have not been announced, will occur from 11:30am-3pm, for 10 minutes each.
“We’re going to leave real early in the morning and get here about 8 o’clock,” said Jeremy North, who’s the head chef at Barrel and Boar. “So hopefully roads aren’t closed then.”
He said they will open their doors for lunch at the same time The Skylight will open its doors for the event, which is 11am.
North hopes tomorrow will be business as usual.
“As far as business tomorrow I just anticipate a normal day,” said North. “The roads might be closed, but I hope for a good day and keep a normal lunch for us on Monday.”
He admits it is frustrating not knowing what roads will be closed this Sunday evening, but adds road closures in downtown Newark are nothing new.
“We’ve been dealing with it now for a couple of years,” said North. “So the anticipation of the road might be closed is not an issue anymore.”
Newark resident Joyce Anderson feels a little different.
“It’ll definitely congest the area because there are already street closures down there due to construction,” said Anderson. “It’s hard to get to the post office because they keep blocking it off in different areas.”
She hopes traffic issue don’t dampen anyone’s mood.
“It will be exciting to have him here whether you’re for him or against him.”
The Newark Police Department and the Licking County Sheriff Office told NBC4 they will have more details on the road closures Monday morning.
