Elderly woman knocked over during Hilltop neighborhood robbery

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – The pain is just now starting to ease for Grace Bell.

“I mean I was almost in tears yesterday. I hurt so bad,” said Bell.

The 80-year-old’s back, neck and arm all still hurt as she sits here with daisy.

Sunday morning she was walking to her car on Richardson Avenue.

“This guy on a bicycle came out real fast and grabbed my purse,” said Bell.

She held tight to it, and the force of the snatch knocked the grandmother of four to the ground. Her neighbor Jules Jones heard the commotion outside his front door.

“I heard somebody hollering for help,” said Jones.

Just one door over Richard Watts heard screams.

“We just hear help help and as I’m coming out the door, I see her laying on the ground and he obviously left,” said Watts.

As Jones and Watts sat with grace until help came, Tiffani Watts took matters into her own hands.

“I immediately hopped in my car. I sped around the block. I seen a person in a purple hoodie matching that description and I tried to stop him by, attempting not to kill him, but to stop him with the front of my car,” said Watts.
