COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Ohio State University has announced Eddie George will be the honorary captain for the Spring Game.
According to a release, George, one of the all-time great players in Ohio State football history, will be on the sidelines this weekend as the honorary captain for the game.
“The team is thrilled to have Eddie George back in Ohio Stadium with them,” Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said. “This coaching staff is thrilled, as well. He is a tremendous representative of this school and this program and we are certainly honored that he’ll be able to take part in this spring game weekend.”
George was considered the best player in college football in 1995. He was the recipient of the Heisman Memorial Trophy – Ohio State’s sixth recipient – and he also won the Doak Walker Award, Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Player of the Year honor and Big Ten MVP accolades.
George still holds school records for most rushing yards in a season (1,927 in 1995) and game (314 vs. Illinois in 1995) and his 3,768 career yards rank third all-time.
The OSU Spring Game is scheduled for noon, Saturday at Ohio Stadium.
