Dublin Police Department welcomes new K9 to the force

DUBLIN, OH (WCMH) – The Dublin Police Department is welcoming its newest police K9 to the force.

Finn, a two-year-old Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd mix has completed his training and is now working with Officer Justin Chappelear as a dual-purpose narcotics K9.

Finn is trained to follow commands in Dutch.

Officer Chappelear was selected as Finn’s handler in 2017. Chappelear is a seven-year veteran with Dublin Police who has wanted to be a dog handler from a young age.

In addition to general patrol duties, Off. Chappelear and Finn will have several roles with the Department including:

  • Narcotics detection
  • Building searches
  • Area searches/suspect tracking
  • Evidence searches
  • Criminal apprehension

Since completing his training, Finn has already helped seize drugs or drug paraphernalia from 50 vehicles, according to Dublin police.
