Drugged drinks at parties and bars

Local News

The Ohio State University Department of Public Safety has reports of possible occurrences of criminal drugging at off-campus parties and bars.

“It’s still a surprise to see people just walk away and leave them unattended for even a minute,” said Bryan Kovach a local bar manager.

The university says the details are limited but want to remind students to “party responsibly” and that means take precautions such as reporting suspicious activity to police, not ingesting unsealed drinks, and never leaving your drink unattended.

“I’m not shocked that it’s happened, but I think it’s sad that it’s happening,” said OSU student Norby Fischer.

Kovach said they continue to train their staff on what they can do.

“When you hear stuff like this going on it’s more reiteration like keep and eye out for stuff like this and keep an eye out for people leaving their drinks. Tell them to take their drinks with them or we can hold them behind the bar.”

He said if his bartenders see an unattended drink they check to see who it belongs to and if no one answers, they’ll dump the drink.

“If I’m a bar drinking I’m not leaving my drink until it’s empty or I’m taking it with me wherever I’m going.”

University officials haven’t given any specifics about the reports, but if you know anything about this situation you’re asked to contact police.
