Dozens of veterans’ grave markers stolen in Licking County

Local News

LICKING COUNTY, OH (WCMH) – Authorities are working to figure out where more than 40 stolen grave markers belong. Licking County deputies arrested Dustin Johnson after they say he stole 43 grave markers Friday night.  They all belonged to veterans.

According to the case report, Johnson parked his car between two storage buildings in Mary Ann Township.  Officials said someone nearby knew something wasn’t right and called 911.

Authorities got to the scene and saw a hose coming from the gas tank of this silver car.  Investigators say Johnson admitted to stealing gas, but they say they soon found out that was not all he took. They checked Johnson’s car and found the grave markers inside. Authorities arrested him on the spot for multiple charges including criminal trespass and theft.

During the arrest, deputies found out Johnson had a warrant out of Newark.  The woman who was with him is not facing any charges.
