COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The Franklin County Dog Shelter is waiving adoption fees for active military members and veterans through Memorial Day.

The shelter said in an email that fees will be waived for puppies and dogs adopted, through Monday, for active and retired servicemembers.

“It is our hope that the healing abilities of the dogs might benefit the veterans, and at the same time save a shelter dog,” said Debbie Finelli, assistant director of the shelter. “Shelter dogs will in turn get a second chance at life while giving our veterans a second chance at health and happiness.”

The shelter is located at 4340 Tamarack Blvd. in Columbus.
