RICHLAND CO., OH (WCMH) -- The Humane Society of Richland County is offering a reward for the arrest of the person or persons responsible for setting off a firecracker in the rectum of a cat.
Missy Houghton with the Humane Society said this is one of the worst cases of animal abuse she's seen.
"Angry, disgusted, horrified, sad. To think, this cat is a friendly cat and went up to someone with no realization of what was going to happen to her," said Houghton.
Katy P. is the cat's name.
She's always been a people person according to those who saw the stray often in her Mansfield neighborhood. Officials say someone who fed Katy P. found her hurt Monday afternoon and brought her in.
"We briefly glanced at her back end and put her in a crate and took her to the vet's office. She was gassed down and they did surgery on her right away," said Houghton.
The surgery to her bottom may be over, but the injuries still don't stop there.
"There's a section of tail where there is no bone. So like, the bones disintegrated in her tail. She will more than likely have her tail amputated," said Houghton.
Katy P. is on a lot of medicine and is in isolation.
Doctors are waiting to see if she will be able to move her bowels. If not, Houghton says that's not a quality of life issue, and she will have to be put down. The Humane Society of Richland County is offering a $1,000 dollar reward to anyone with any information that will lead to an indictment.
