DELAWARE, OH (WCMH) — Fifth-grade students in Delaware County got a lesson in safety on Tuesday as part of a program at the county fairgrounds.
The 26th Annual Kids’ Safety Scenes event allowed students to rotate through several stations to learn about safety. At one station, students learned about K-9s with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office. At others, they learned first aid or saw a MedFlight helicopter.
The county’s emergency management director said the event was not only informational, but fun for the children involved.
“It’s a great event, and the kids really enjoy it, because they’re outside, they’re talking to first responders, they’re seeing helicopters take off and land, so they really enjoy it,” said Sean Miller, emergency management director for Delaware County.
Miller said the program began to teach kids about farm safety, but as the county has grown, the event has evolved to focus on current issues, such as distracted driving.
