Father’s Day is on Sunday.
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is offering all fathers and grandfathers free admission on Father’s Day when they are accompanied by at least one of their children or grandchildren.
It’s a great deal.
According to the National Retail Federation, this year, Americans will spend a record $16 billion on Father’s Day gifts.
The average person is expected to spend about $139.
So how are most people showering their dad with love?
The most popular gift is a greeting card, according to NRF. A special outing comes in second, with people expected to spend about $3.3 billion on outings with dad. Clothing comes in third, then gift cards followed by books and DVDs.
The biggest surprise was how people are shopping for gifts this year.
The survey found about 40 percent of shoppers who own a smartphone or tablet plan to use their device to research prices
Despite the surge in Father’s Day spending, the number doesn’t come close to how much people spent on Mother’s Day.
The survey found that only 76% of people surveyed plan to celebrate Father’s Day, compared to the 84% who celebrated Mother’s Day.
So, no matter what you get Dad this year, make sure he feels just as special as Mom.
