CPD officer won’t be charged in fatal shooting

A Columbus police officer will not be charged after shooting and killing a 25-year-old man in February.

Nathan A. Schwind, an 11-year veteran with the Columbus Division of Police was cleared in the shooting of Steven Tyler Reed after more than eight months after the incident occurred.

Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Eldon Avenue around 9:30pm in February on the report of a domestic violence complaint. When officers arrived, they were told the suspect fled the scene to the 100 block of Letchworth Avenue.

Prosecutors said Reed urged officers to come in the house after him and engaged in a gunfight.

Reed was pronounced dead at the scene.
