COLUMBUS (WCMH) — One person is dead after a shooting in northeast Columbus Monday night.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, just before 9:30 p.m., Monday, officers were called to the 4300 block of Malin Drive on the report of shots fired.  

When officers arrived on scene, they found 34-year-old Derrick L. Samuels Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound.  

Samuels was taken to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.  

This was the city’s 177th homicide, which ties the record for the most in a year for Columbus.
