Police: Son shot father before barricading himself inside south Columbus home

Columbus

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – A man allegedly shot his father in the leg before barricading himself inside a home Tuesday afternoon.

According to Columbus Police, Jeremy C. Davis, 27, of Columbus, was visiting his 55-year-old father on South High Street when the father noticed a gun in Davis’ waistband.

The two men began arguing, which is when Davis allegedly pulled the gun from his waistband and fired it at his father, hitting him in the left leg, police said.

Columbus police said Davis then fled the scene on foot before barricading himself inside a home on the 1800 block of South Fourth Street.

Police and Columbus SWAT responded to the home on South Fourth Street, where Davis remained barricaded for several hours before surrendering to police.

Police said Davis held several people inside the home at gunpoint during the standoff. None of them were injured.

Columbus police are unsure of Davis’ relationship with the people inside the home.

Davis is being charged with felonious assault.

People in surrounding homes were evacuated by police during the standoff.
