COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Two people died in separate overnight shootings on Friday evening.

Columbus Police said the first shooting occurred near the 2300 block of Century Dr. on the northeast side of Columbus.

The police report states officers arrived at the scene where they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. A female was with him during the incident and sustained no injuries.

Medics transported the victim to Riverside Hospital in critical condition. The victim died around 11 p.m., according to police. A suspect has yet to be identified.

The second shooting took place on the 300 block of East 12th Avenue.

Columbus police dispatch confirms the person was taken to OSU main hospital at about 10:40 p.m. after the incident. Investigators say the victim was shot at from a vehicle that fled the area.

Police say the victim, 38-year old Fentahhun Mengistu, died a little after 11 p.m.

These are the 187th and 188th homicides in Columbus for the calendar year of 2021.

Police are continuing to investigate both incidents.
