COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Columbus police say they are investigating after shots were fired near the Polaris area.

According to Columbus police, just after 12:30 p.m., Monday, a shooting was reported between two vehicles driving in the area of S. Old State Road and Polaris Parkway.

Police said a 20-year-old pregnant woman was in the vehicle with a 21-year-old man traveling on Polaris Parkway when the suspect vehicle, a silver Chevrolet Malibu, started following them.

Xavier Lamar Jackson

According to police, Xavier Lamar Jackson, 19, and three other males were in the Malibu when one of the people in the Malibu began shooting at the victims’ vehicle.

The victims’ car was hit by gunfire several times, but neither of the occupants was hit, police said. As the victims tried to flee from the scene, they crashed into two parked cars. The woman was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Police said Jackson was later arrested and charged with two counts of felonious assault. He is currently being held in Delaware County jail.

Shell casings were found in the parking lot of a PENZONE salon. Debbie Penzone, president and CEO of PENZONE Salon, issued the following statement:

Today, around 12:30pm, there were reports of gunfire as a vehicle egressed through our team member parking area and a second vehicle was abandoned. The fact that this incident happened on our salon property was coincidence as the matter didn’t involve anyone associated with our business. We are currently collaborating with CPD, providing them access to all security footage from the scene. The safety of our team members and guests is our top priority and we are so relieved that no one was affected by this unfortunate incident.
