COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A person is dead after crashing their car into water near Marble Cliff Friday night.
Just before 7:30 p.m. in northwest Columbus, a black 2013 Buick was traveling west on West Fifth Avenue when it passed McKinley Avenue, vaulted up and over an embankment, flipped over, fell down a cliff and landed in a quarry, according to Columbus police.
The driver, later identified as 86-year-old Roderick Matheson, was taken to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in critical condition. Matheson was pronounced dead at 8:42 p.m. This is the 15th traffic-related death in Columbus in 2023.
The Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
