COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A person has died after being hit by a car in southeast Columbus Thursday evening.
Columbus police were called to the intersection of S. Hamilton Road and Eastland Drive shortly after 4:30 p.m. on reports of a pedestrian hit, according to the Columbus Division of Police. Authorities said the victim was walking east across S. Hamilton Road when a 2011 Buick Regal traveling south at a high speed hit him.
A passenger in the Buick was partially ejected through the front windshield and suffered head injuries, police said. The victim and passenger were taken to Mount Carmel East, where the victim died at 5:11 p.m. The passenger remains in critical condition.
Dispatchers said the driver stayed at the scene. The Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the crash. Police said this is the 14th traffic death in Columbus in 2023.
