COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — An alleged attempted robbery turned fatal when a man was shot while trying to intervene near Polaris Fashion Place Thursday evening.
Emergency dispatchers said at 5:11 p.m., someone reported a shooting at the AutoZone store on 8338 Sancus Boulevard. The victim, 43-year-old Alejandro Fajardo-Torres, was pronounced dead eight minutes later. Police reported that Fajardo-Torres was a customer at the store when he intervened in an armed robbery.
The shooting occurred inside the store, where police said a second victim was suffering from a blunt-force trauma injury. That victim, an 18-year-old male who works at the store, was taken to an area hospital and listed in stable condition.
CPD believes the incident is linked to a string of robberies, in which two suspects have reportedly targeted area auto parts retail stores. The investigation continues and the entire AutoZone parking lot is taped off.
Police are still searching for two suspects that were captured on surveillance cameras. CPD asks that anyone with information call Columbus Police Detective Brandt at (614) 645-4077, the Homicide Unit at (614) 645-4730, or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-TIPS (8477).
