COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — One person is dead after a motorcycle crash late Saturday night in east Columbus.
A police dispatcher told NBC4 that officers were called at 10:41 p.m. after a crash on Interstate 270 South just past the East Broad Street exit.
According to police, witnesses and ODOT cameras confirmed that a BMW motorcycle was speeding south on I-270 with another motorcycle. The BMW, which police said was traveling too close to a Chevrolet Cruze, then hit the Cruze with enough force to cause all of the vehicle’s airbags to deploy, police said.
The driver of the motorcycle was thrown from the bike, coming to rest on the right shoulder of the road. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:55 p.m.
None of the people in the Cruze were injured.
The Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
