Columbus Police: Fight leads to fatal shooting in Mount Vernon neighborhood

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — One person is dead after a shooting in the Mount Vernon section of Columbus Saturday night.

According to Columbus Police, the shooting happened on the 1400 block of Hildreth Avenue at approximately 11:16 p.m. Officers say an alleged fight in this location most likely led to the shooting.

The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:24 p.m.

Police said that just prior to the shooting, there was a fight at the location. Detectives are trying to determine who was involved and what the fight was about, believing the fight led directly to the shooting and there may be witnesses.

This is the 135th homicide in Columbus for 2021.
