COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A man is in critical condition after his girlfriend allegedly accidentally shot him in southeast Columbus Wednesday night.

Columbus police said the shooting happened on the 3700 block of Knightsway Lane at approximately 10:45 p.m. when a man was attempting to enter an apartment where the woman lived. The woman thought the man, who turned out to be the woman’s boyfriend, was someone else, possibly a previous boyfriend, trying to break into the apartment.

The victim was taken to Grant Medical Center and is listed in critical condition after being hit with shots fired through a window.

The woman was taken into custody by police, though it is unknown what charges if any will be filed.
