COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Police are on the scene of a deadly shooting at a barbershop in north Columbus.

According to Columbus Police, a shooting was reported at 12:04 p.m., Tuesday, in the 5800 block of N. Meadows Boulevard.

Officers found the victim, 51-year-old Lawrence Jefferson, dead at the scene.

Police Sgt. Joe Albert said Jefferson was an employee of this barbershop called Executive Barber Salon.

According to a CPD release, witnesses state that the male suspect entered the barbershop and spoke with Jefferson. They then left and witnesses said that’s when they heard gunshots.

The owner of Executive Barber Shop said he knew Jefferson and can’t believe the shooting happened.

“He was a good guy,” said owner Troy Cherry. “He was always talking about his grandkids and stuff like that, and I mean, I wouldn’t see why this would happen.”

The shooting remains under investigation.

“It’s so preliminary that we don’t know if it’s a robbery gone bad, is it a targeted attack,” said Columbus police Sgt. Joe Albert. “That’s stuff that the detectives will have to work through. all the stories from everything that’s here on scene.”

This is the 37th homicide in Columbus in 2022.
