COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Interstate 270 westbound was closed for five hours after two people were killed in a crash in the northwestern part of Columbus Monday afternoon.
Officials responded to a call of a car fire and crash at the Sawmill Road exit off of I-270 West outside of Dublin at approximately 2:51 p.m. when a 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer drifted left of the exit lane and struck the concrete median, then careened to the right and struck an overhead street light.
Columbus Division of Fire Batallion Chief Jeffery Geiter confirmed that one person was pronounced dead in the crash after they were ejected out of the vehicle. A second person was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead a short time later
I-270 westbound from State Route 315 was closed for nearly five hours following the crash, reopening at approximately 7:45 p.m. once crews were able to clear the vehicle involved in the crash from the area.
CPD has not yet revealed the victims’ identity or what caused the crash, which remains under investigation.
