COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Columbus police have charged a woman who they said abandoned a toddler at a local gas station.

An unidentified toddler found in Columbus, Ohio, on Feb. 3, 2022

Police say the child was left at a Circle K gas station along Twins Creek Drive on Thursday morning. The baby was taken into care by Franklin County Children’s Services. On Friday morning, children’s services announced they had identified the toddler and would work with the family “to ensure his safety and well-being.”

The child appeared to be 15 months old, FCCS said.

Witnesses told police a woman walked into the store with the boy, then ran out leaving the child behind. Store workers tried to grab the woman as she left, but she ignored them, according to police.

The baby was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with no apparent injuries.

On Friday afternoon, Columbus police said they located the mother about 7:30 p.m. Thursday and took her police headquarters for questioning. She has been charged with one count of endangering a child, a first-degree misdemeanor.
