COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The African-American Male Wellness Walk attracted thousands as the annual event raised money to help African-American men take their health screenings more seriously.

People began gathering in Livingston Park early Saturday morning in preparation for the event, for which NBC4 is a proud sponsor.

According to the African-American Male Wellness Agency, more than $600,000 has been raised to promote the life expectancy of African-American men in physical health, mental health, financial health, fatherhood and research.

Free health screenings and COVID-19 vaccines were available to anyone who wanted them. Organizers said they hoped to build trust toward health services among the African-American community.

Donations are being accepted on the agency’s website.
