The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash where a pedestrian was struck and killed by a passing vehicle.

The crash occurred on January 23, 2019 at approximately 5:36am on State Route 61 just north of U.S. 71 in Morrow County.

Police say Amanda Cumpton, 34, Columbus, was walking south on SR 61 on the southbound side when she was struck by a vehicle that was traveling southbound. The driver of the vehicle that struck Cumpton left the scene and has not yet been identified.

Cumpton was transported by Morrow County EMS to Morrow County Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

Cumpton’s teenage son was walking with her at the time of the crash but was not injured.

Witnesses tell police that the hit-skip vehicle is a dark colored SUV or pick up truck, possibly a Chevrolet. Police say the vehicle will be missing the passenger side mirror and will have damage to the passenger side front fender.
