COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A Columbus woman is being held on $750,000 bond after being arraigned on charges that she raped three children.
Amorita Griffey, 25, appeared in Franklin County Municipal Court on Tuesday morning, facing three counts of rape of a child under 13. The charge is a first-degree felony.
According to court documents, police received a report of possible sexual abuse on May 21, 2018, involving Griffey and three boys. Two of the victims were 11 years old and the third victim was 10 years old.
When interviewed, according to court documents, each boy told police Griffey had performed oral sex on them at a house on Ripplebrook Road on May 19. When Griffey was interviewed by police on May 29, court documents note she confessed to doing so in her backyard at that house. Asked why she did it, Griffey said the boys asked her to.
Neighbors in Griffey’s southwest Columbus neighborhood say they’ve grown accustomed to seeing Griffey play with children in the area.
Jessica Kuhns lives next door. “Just wanting to be around kids and be sociable – I mean she’s very sociable,” Kuhns said. “A very caring person – she likes to come over and hang out with the kids and with my neighbor.”
Kuhns describes Griffey’s behavior as that of a teenager. She says Griffey acted as though she was a peer to the kids in the neighborhood. “I just feel they really influenced Rita to do something she didn’t want to do because she knew, she told me she knew, it was wrong and she shouldn’t have done it but they just kept wanting her to do what she did,” Kuhns said.
Griffey was charged and arrested on June 4. A judge set her bond at $750,000 on Tuesday and ordered her to have no contact with the victims. She is due back in court on June 14.
