Columbus track meet cancelled due to aggressive geese nesting near track

Local News

When you see waste on the ground, you know geese are nearby.

“Poop. They run around,” said Bionce Brown.

Brown wishes they weren’t in her neighborhood.

“I don’t understand. Why do we have geese?” asked Brown.

She hates these birds, but this year there are a lot of them in her neighborhood near Columbus Africentric Early College.  At least 12 just outside of the track and field area.  The one that’s causing trouble is a mother goose nesting on the track.  She caused Columbus City Schools to cancel Thursday’s north preliminaries.

She and her partner aggressively attacked athletic staff.  Patrick Johnson saw these same birds at fighting people before.

“I actually witnessed the geese chasing the kids on practice the other day. The geese were taking flight, but the coach here he was trying his best to keep the kids safe but I actually got a kick out of it though,” said Johnson.

The husband and father of two says he can assure us he won’t be these geese’s next victim.

“I try to stay away from them as best as I can. Keep my kids away from there but I wouldn’t dare try to touch those things,” said Johnson.
