Columbus police searching for armed robbery suspect

Columbus police are asking for help in identifying and locating an armed robbery suspect.

According to Columbus police, on August 27, at approximately 9:50am, a man entered the Dollar General on Demorest Rd in the southwest Hilltop area, walked directly to the front counter and told the cashier to open the register.

Investigators say that the man displayed a handgun to the clerk. The clerk complied with the demand and the suspect took an undetermined amount of money from the register, then left the store on foot.

The incident was captured on surveillance cameras.

The suspect is described by Columbus police as a black male, mid 20’s, 5’9″ to 6’0″, 150 lbs. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the words “Mud Thumpin” in orange on the front and black shorts.
