Police say one person has died after a shooting just southeast of downtown Columbus, and a suspect has been arrested for his murder.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Wilson Avenue and East Deshler Avenue around 4:30am Saturday on a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found one person, identified as 18-year-old Desean Rondel Bonet, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Bonet was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.

Police say they arrested 20-year-old Kiez Diangelo Collins in connection with Bonet’s murder. Police investigation indicates Bonet and Collins were in an altercation that escalated into Collins firing a weapon at Bonet and striking him “multiple times.”

This is the 46th homicide in Columbus in 2018.
