The Columbus Division of Police announced on Friday Officer Jason T. Jackson passed away this morning after battling cancer. He was 47.

Jackson is the son of former Columbus police Chief James Jackson. He leaves behind a wife and four children, police said on Facebook.

He also leaves behind his law enforcement family who loved him dearly.

“Jackson had a love of life, a love of community, a love of educating teens about policing through the Columbus Police Explorers program,” officials wrote on Facebook.

“Our hearts are heavy for his father Chief James Jackson and the rest of his family who were by his side until the end.”

Here are comments from local leaders including Mayor Andrew Ginther and Columbus City Councilman Shannon Hardin.
