Columbus bartender robbed at gunpoint by suspect pretending to be cop

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – The owners of a Columbus bar are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a man they say robbed a bartender at gunpoint.

Monday night, two men were getting ready to perform in a drag show at Boscoe’s when a man allegedly impersonating an officer was holding a bartender hostage in the back room.

Patrons drinking and dancing had no idea it was all going on.

Around 9 p.m. Monday, Bryan Richardson was preparing to take the stage at Boscoe’s. He was in the dressing room when he heard a man threatening a bartender at gunpoint in the adjoining office.

“I actually heard the bartender, Wesley, crying out through the wall,” said Richardson. “I just kept hearing Wesley say that. He said, ‘please don’t hurt anybody.’”

He said ‘I’m going to leave now and if you say anything or tell anyone I’m going to shoot you and everyone else in the bar,’” Richardson continued.

Performer Dante Dinucci heard it too.

“And that’s when my heart sunk to the floor because I knew that he was alone and we had no way to get to him or anything,” said Dinucci. “It’s honestly the scariest feeling in the entire world knowing that your friend was being threatened and you can’t get to him.”

Boscoes General Manager David Emerson says the suspect got that bartender into the back office claiming he was a cop.

“He presented a badge saying that he was investigating a homicide and needed to speak to a manager,” said Emerson.

Emerson said the man made off with about $1,200.

The bartender, although shaken, wasn’t physically hurt.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Columbus police at 614-645-4545.
