Child sleeping in his bed injured by stray bullet in south Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — An 8-year-old boy is recovering after being shot by a stray bullet while he was sleeping in his bed.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, at about 11:09pm, Tuesday, officers were called to the 1800 block of S. 5th Street on the report of a shooting. 

Officers say that Toliea M. Jack, 32, was walking on the sidewalk in the area when an unknown male shot her in the leg. 

Jack was taken to an area hospital where she is expected to recover from her injury.

However, according to police, a stray bullet from the shooting entered the exterior of a home on S. 5th Street and grazed an 8-year-old boy, who was sleeping in his bed, in the chest. 

The boy was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where he was treated and released.
