Not quite 24-hours after the Ohio State Buckeyes delivered a Rose Bowl victory, a United Airlines Plane delivered the team, staff and coaches safe and sound to Rickenbacker Airport.
Yes, OSU’s win was top of mind for the surprisingly few fans waiting to greet the Buckeyes, but in their hearts it was about 1 of the first off the plane on his last trip as OSU’s head coach, Urban Meyer.
“Been watching ‘em my whole life and I wish Urban Meyer luck,” said Nathan Blizzard.
“Oh it was a great game great game. Good win I’m glad he went out on top,” said Earl Davis.
Winding down the end of a 7-year-run leading the Buckeyes, capped off by a Rose Bowl Victory and the end of a long week and flight home, Meyer was all smiles as NBC4 asked about the flight (it was “great”) and how it feels to be home.
“Well it really feels good after you win the Rose Bowl,” said Meyer.
Meyer shared his thoughts about the last couple of hours and the next chapter for the Buckeyes without him as head coach.
“It’s really important to see Ohio State continue to move forward,” he said.
One of the most successful coaches in college football history, Meyer then shared how he hoped to end his night with very little fanfare and 1 very little fan.
“Go try to see my grandson if he’s awake and unpack. Not very exciting,” he said.
